Strengthened food and income security through sustainable food production and gender equality. Enabling Rural Innovation (ERI) is a participatory approach that puts small farmers in charge of development processes, finding innovative solutions.
ERI works directly with 1.050 people (630 women and 420 men) organised in groups of 30 members each, 3 are women-only groups. This includes financing partners, civil servants, public and private institutions, religious institutions and communities. Indirectly involved are 7.350 people.
Although agriculture is the most important economic sector in Tanzania, most communities live in food and income insecurity. The challenges in rural areas include inadequate productivity and market orientation of agricultural production, lack of sustainable management of natural resources and weak organization and network formation between farmers. The Enabling Rural Innovation (ERI) approach addresses these challenges with a holistic approach that promotes an entrepreneurial culture. In the previous project phases, ERI has proven to be an appropriate approach to the needs of the region, which has successfully increased the productivity of small farmers and improved their living situations.
