Contribution to economic and organisational empowerment with environmental awareness among women and men in four municipalities in the northern part of Morazán.
Directly involved: 600 people (400 women and 200 men), indirectly involved: 14.250 people (7.268 women and 6.982 men).
The project will serve four of Morazán’s eight municipalities: Meanguera, Jocoaitique, Arambala and San Fernando. The families living in here often with a low level of schooling are mainly engaged in subsistence agriculture of basic grain crops, although some grow fruits and small-scale vegetables, also for self-consumption, using non-environmentally friendly technologies. In these areas, women are often economically dependent on men, which often favours acts of violence against them and their children. This becomes a vicious circle that limits women's development and economic autonomy. The rate of femicides has been increasing; gender violence being the cause of 50% of violent deaths of women. In the first half of 2021 the department of Morazán registered 3 feminicides, one of them in Meanguera.According to EHPM (Encuesta de Hogares de Propósitos Múltiples) of the DIGESTYC (Dirección General de Estadística y Censos) 2019, girls and women have least access to education.
We are backed by more than 30 years of work in our communities in the department of Morazán, promoting the human capacities of women and men in sectors such as agriculture, entrepreneurship, the defence of human rights, soil conservation works, among others.
