Strengthened capacities of men and women to reduce inequality gaps in participation, decision-making and agroecologically conscious agricultural production.
Directly involved: 680 people (340 women and 340 men), indirectly involved: 204.000 people (106.080 women and 97.920 men).
In the area of the Apaneca-Ilametepec Biosphere Reserve, there is low participation of women in organised management bodies, meaning women’s needs and problems are not considered. From an early age, women are burdened with an overload of responsibilities related to chores and family care, which limit their access to education and economic autonomy. Among the causes of this problem, the following have been identified: women's low level of self-esteem, poor quality education, limited economic resources at the family level, women's dependence on their partners, and a macho environment. Thus, the project prioritises the training of women leaders on issues such as gender, human rights, decision-making and the care economy, so that they can be agents of change in other groups of women, closing the inequality gap. Similarly, actions will be developed to train and sensitise men on alternative masculinities, responsible fatherhood and the care economy, promoting gender equality.
