Empowered women, fostered resilience and sustainable environmental conservation in the communities of La Montañita and El Carmen in the Sacocoyo municipality. Through implementation of agroecological practices, women produce food for consumption and sale in harmony with nature.
Directly involved: totaling 804 individuals (412 female and 392 male), including women (majority are head of household, from low education level, limited opportunity for formal employment) youth, and elderly adults. Indirectly involved: approx. 10.900 people from the surrounding areas.
In Sacacoyo, agricultural challenges include soil fertility loss due to agrochemical use and contamination of rivers from improper waste disposal. Lack of government initiatives exacerbates environmental degradation. Socially, violence against women persists. The project aims to empower women, enhance their roles as household heads, and mitigate environmental degradation through community-led efforts and coordination with local stakeholders.
