Guatemala is a country in which women are discriminated and limited in their rights because they are women, poor and indigenous - despite the fact that it is a signatory to international agreements to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and gender-based violence, the existence of a National Policy and a Plan for Equal Opportunities. Statistics persist and continue to indicate the increase in poverty, low schooling, economic dependence, lack of economic opportunities and an increase in gender-based violence. Hence the need to be able to access the exercise of their human rights, and for this it must begin with a process of change that begins with thinking about themselves, how women see themselves, how they value themselves and what they feel about themselves, when they achieve that first change and know the causes why they find themselves in a position of subordination. Being aware of what it means to be a woman, how women live and why, allows the need for change to arise.
AMOIXQUIC's core issues are the rights of women and indigenous people as well as the participation of women. By raising awareness and empowering women politically, the aim is to overcome economic dependency as a prerequisite for asserting their own rights.
