Goal

Food security and gender equality in Songwe District.

Participants

Directly involved are 640 small farmers (384 women and 256 men) in 13 villages. Indirectly involved: 3.200 people. The quality of life of children and families is positively influenced by improved nutrition in households. The project contributes to the achievement of SDGs 1, 2, 5 and 13 and the Tanzania Vision 2025.

Background

The majority of people in the region live from agriculture, but malnutrition due to food shortages is a major problem for the population. Women and girls are particularly affected by this. Although they account for the largest share of agricultural production, their needs are often not taken into account due to prevailing inequalities. Only a quarter of the local population has access to clean drinking water. ADP Mbozi's project is primarily aimed at improving income and nutrition as well as raising awareness of gender equality.

Activities

  • Improved livestock and agricultural practices to combat food shortages and malnutrition
  • A field school presents various technologies that make it possible to improve food production and restore soil fertility without destroying natural resources and the environment
  • The supported ecological technologies will, in the long term, improve the lives of women who are most affected by the negative impacts of climate change
