Food security and gender equality in Songwe District.
Directly involved are 640 small farmers (384 women and 256 men) in 13 villages. Indirectly involved: 3.200 people. The quality of life of children and families is positively influenced by improved nutrition in households. The project contributes to the achievement of SDGs 1, 2, 5 and 13 and the Tanzania Vision 2025.
The majority of people in the region live from agriculture, but malnutrition due to food shortages is a major problem for the population. Women and girls are particularly affected by this. Although they account for the largest share of agricultural production, their needs are often not taken into account due to prevailing inequalities. Only a quarter of the local population has access to clean drinking water. ADP Mbozi's project is primarily aimed at improving income and nutrition as well as raising awareness of gender equality.
The Tanzanian NGO Actions for Development Programs (ADP) – Mbozi was founded in 1986 and seeks to improve people's quality of life through food security and new income opportunities. The current project builds on the experience gained from previous phases in partnership with Welthaus Graz and the DKA since 2007 and with HORIZONT3000 since 2017.
