Strengthening the resilience of vulnerable groups, in particular women and people with disabilities, affected by multiple crises (security crisis, climate crisis).
23.510 people in 2.351 households involved.
The project area, made up of the regions of Tambacounda and Kaffrine, is marked by a deterioration in the living conditions. The population has a high rural population where agriculture remains the main sector providing jobs, income and food.In rural Senegal, there is a strict division of roles between the sexes, and therefore a division of daily tasks. The man's main task is to fill the granary and the woman is responsible for household chores, including grinding cereals, collecting water and caring for the children. Despite their also important contribution to the agricultural sector, rural women are generally in a disadvantaged position. It is important to note that women in the area are very often relegated to second place and their opinions count after those of men, the religious aspect being very marked. To gain access to destined land, they have to make several pleas, insisting that it be granted in the same way as men. Traditions greatly restrict women, whose fundamental role is in domestic work.
In the diocese of Tambacounda in the east of the country, Caritas supports families in remote villages in the realisation of their agriculture. The focus is on the resilience of the population and income-generating initiatives. The measures focus in particular on promoting ecological farming methods that are adapted to climate change and do not harm the environment.
